Share the LOVE Blog Hop

Dear Gentle Readers.

We're doing something different here today.  We are participating in the Share the LOVE Giveaway Blog Hop.  Instead of telling you about my books, my blog, and myself, yada, yada, I want to share with you some great authors who are also truly exceptional people I had met along the way in this author's journey.  I'll tell you a little about them and share their Facebook Page links.

Your mission, should accept the challenge, is to LIKE their Facebook Page, then come back here and tell me what number LIKE you were, (example:  Iona 577) to be entered into our Vision and Verse Giveaway.  Then, hop along to the next blog and enter that blog's giveaway.  I will announce my winners on Monday, Feb. 9.  There are giveaways at every blog.  See?  Fun!

               Iona Morrison

Iona says she was a very talkative child who was full of energy, and that her mother introduced her to books in an attempt to save her sanity.  Well, whatever reason, thank you Iona's mom.  The literary world appreciates it!

Iona and her husband live in Colorado.  They have three sons.

The Harvest Club was Iona's first book.  It is a page turner dealing with murder and organ trafficking.  It was published by The Wild Rose Press.  I will be gifting a kindle copy of The Harvest Club in today's giveaway.  Her second novel, Not For Sale, will be out soon, so be on the lookout for it.

Crystal lives in Michigan with her husband and two cats.  They have five children and thirteen grandchildren.  Crystal's first book is a time travel adventure called Troianne.  It is an excellent example of a time travel story that reads like a historical novel.  The sequel to Troianne, Diana's Magic, has just come out.  I will be gifting a kindle copy of Diana's Magic in today's giveaway.

Valentine Promise by Sharon Kleve

Valentine Promise

Corny is up to her old tricks in Valentine Promise. Book 5 in The Corny Myers Series.
Corny’s old boss appears in a dream and asks for a Valentine favor—to avenge his death. Corny’s a pet detective not a human detective.
But, with the help of a few friends Corny fulfills her promise with only a few stitches, a concussion, and a trip to the hospital.
Steve loves Corny but she’ll be the death of him. He knows she’s up to something that could get her hurt. But when Corny makes a promise there’s not stopping her.

Excerpt:

Steve arrived home right on time. When he opened the door, I jumped up and wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. “Hi sexy. How was your day?”

“Not as eventful as yours, I’m told.”

I kissed Steve behind his ear and whispered, “Call John off. That’s a waste of his valuable time.” Steve supported my weight by holding my rear end.

He squeezed once and nipped my chin with his teeth. “Do you plan to do anything that will get yourself hurt?”

Steve lowered me with his muscular arms just enough for me to feel his rising desire and then rotated his hips near my most prized, sensitive spot. I wiggled to get closer to that spot. I’d agree or disagree to anything at this point. “No.”

Steve laughed and the sensation vibrated through my body. He rotated his hips again. “What are you saying no to?” His voice had lowered to a husky whisper.

“Everything.” Steve was a sex machine on overdrive and I loved every minute of it.

“How about a few spin cycles on the washing machine before dinner?”

Brooke Williams "Accept this Dandelion"

Renee Lockhart has her eye on a lofty goal…to fill the open position of morning radio show host at the station where she works. When her co-workers sign her up for a local TV version of The Bachelor, Renee goes along with it in order to raise her profile.

Upon seeing her bumbling audition, Ben McConnell, one of the most eligible bachelors in town, insists that Renee be placed on the show. But Ben gets much more than he expected in Renee… he gets a girl who can’t seem to do anything right…and a girl he can’t seem to resist.

EXCERPT:

Renee leaned way over in her chair, throwing her arm up beside her for dramatic effect. She had the perfect line to close her short ad, but instead of delivering it, she flung one of the flickering candles to the floor with a loud crash.

“Fire!” she screamed as she realized the flame had not extinguished, but rather had transferred itself to the hem of her dress.

Before Renee could stop drop and roll, Ben leapt from his chair and threw himself across the small space separating them. The pressure of his body against her leg put out the fire instantly, but it also toppled her chair over, leaving them in a heap on the concrete.

Renee found herself on her side with Ben’s breath on her cheek. She slowly turned her head, though what she really wanted to do was push him away and run out of the studio as fast as possible.

“That was quite a commercial.” Ben didn’t make a move to rise. “Are you okay?”

Renee wasn’t sure how the dress looked, but there were no burning sensations on her leg. There was a twinge in the pit of her stomach. She nodded. “I’m okay.” She met his eyes and allowed herself a few beats to study him closely. He was handsome. And now, he was even a hero. Though he wouldn’t have had to save her from burning flames had she not set herself on fire.

Ben deftly got to his feet and pulled Renee from her chair as the producer rushed over and the camera operators stood by, panning down to capture Renee’s smoldering dress.

“Hey, Renee,” Ben whispered into her ear, “next time there’s fire between us, I’m not going to put it out.”

****

Hi Brooke and welcome back to Vision and Verse.  We're always glad to see you.  I see you have a new book out today inspired by The Bachelor.  What a clever idea! What inspired you to write “Accept this Dandelion?” What did you discover while writing it?

Thank you, Carol.  The only way I am able to write a novel is when I am so inspired to write it that I simply can’t NOT write it. The idea bugs me and festers and takes over my thoughts at all hours of the day or night. That’s when I know I have a story that has to be written. If it’s something I forget about after a day or two, it can wait.

Accept this Dandelion” was inspired by the TV show “The Bachelor.” The book is based around a localized version of the show on which nothing can go right for the main character. This poor girl…the things I put her through! She lights herself on fire, has an allergic reaction, rips her dress open, you name it! Dating disaster after dating disaster. And while I feel sorry for her, it brought joy to me and hopefully will bring a laugh and a smile to readers as well.

I discovered just how much fun I could have when writing as I created “Accept this Dandelion.” Writing is something I have ALWAYS loved, but when I wrote this, I literally had a smile on my face. I would sit at the computer, rub my hands together with glee, and type like the wind. It was pure joy to write this book and I feel honored that the story came to me. I also discovered that I have a very strange sense of humor. I guess I’ve always known it, but now that this book is available, everyone else will know it too!

We at Vision and Verse wish you much success with your new book and all your writing endeavors.  Thank you for stopping by on this busy morning.  Come back and see us anytime.
Hugs,
Carol

Praise for Accept this Dandelion

"This book is adorable. I had to sneak away from my desk to read the rest of it once I started. It had my smiling and laughing the whole way through."
-Sarah, Advanced Reader Copy Review

What could possibly evolve from such a strange attraction? That's the meat of Accept this Dandelion, purportedly a romance, but in essence so much more. Acceptance is, indeed, at the heart of Accept this Dandelion: acceptance of self, others, and the paths life offers up, whether for good or bad.

The Artist Jim Gray

Jim Gray.  Ever heard of him?  No?  Well, you should.  I was first drawn to the art of Jim Gray by his ship paintings, like this beauty to the left, The Sunshine.  I have always loved ocean and lighthouses, so that love naturally evolved to include sailing ships, though the only  sailing ships I have ever been aboard, besides our little eight-foot Sunflower, were anchored securely in the harbor.

Jim Gray is a special kind of artist.  He is first and foremost an American adventurer, who records his experiences, not with the camera or a tape recorder, but with the canvas.  For over fifty years, he has allowed us to join in his adventures through his paintings.

Jim's first job was not the typical grocery store stocker or  newspaper delivery boy, but an illustrator for a loan company.  His good-natured humorous drawings drew in the customers.

During the Korean War, Jim was an electronics instructor and later a technical illustrator in the Air Force.  Afterward he moved back to Mobile, Alabama, where he worked at an illustrator for an ad agency.  In 1962, he and two partners opened their own ad agency.

In 1966, Jim and his family visited the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee and it was a life changing experience.  He moved to Tennessee, leaving behind a very successful business, allowing his creative spirit to explore and paint the beautiful countryside surrounding the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

In 1968, jim was featured in National Geographic, and the writer from NG was taken with Jim's enthusiasm and immense talent.  This article led to nationwide coverage in other magazines like American Artist and Southern Living.

When Carl Sagan was picking photos to be included on CD for the Voyager I and II missions, he chose one of Jim in his studio, painting a scene from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

I claim no rights to anything here.  None of this is my own.  The list to the right is where I got my information on the talented Mr. Jim Gray, and I am including it for those who want to know more about him and view more of his works.

February Contest

Dear Gentle Readers,

I am trying something new in the month of February to try to get my short story/recipe book Echo of Heartbreak, A Recipe for Life into the hands of more readers.  Everyone who purchases Echo in paperback or digital form and sends me proof of purchase, either your digital order number or a screenshot of your purchase record, by commenting here or by emailing it to me at                          carolannkauffman@gmail.com will be eligible to win a $15 Amazon Gift Card, to be awarded on March 1st.

Echo is a different kind of love story and anyone who has a daughter or a mother will understand. Some comments from recent reviews are:

"This book broke my heart and healed it all in one sitting. I suggest that all mothers share this book with their daughters and visa versa. It is a story of a young mothers struggle to leave a legacy of knowledge and some tasty ideas. I truly loved this book and will share with my daughters and grandaughters. I hope that eveyone will take the advice of this loving mother. Carol Ann Kauffman truly captures the human spirit in this loving tribute to women everywhere."

"Echo of Heartbreak: A Recipe for Life, by Carol Ann Kauffman,is a heartwarming story of love and devotion a mother has for her unborn child. Knowing she may not live through the pregnancy or childbirth, she is still determined to bring her child into the world. So she begins to leave a legacy in the form of a journal, filled with tips of how to live a good life and adds recipes from her Italian heritage.

This is an extremely enjoyable story filled with emotion and sentiment. It shows, on every page, the love this mom has for her child, no matter what and plans ahead to teach her child about love and devotion. I also like the way the author enveloped the journal entries and the recipes in between the pages of the story, to tug our heart strings along, every step of the way."

"Wow! This is both heart-breaking and hugely absorbing, the storytelling is fast paced and exceptionally well written, I loved the conversational style of Melina and the direct and honest outpouring of emotions. The recipes are both informative and wonderful, and certainly a surprise and innovative element of the narrative. This is the second book I have read by Carol and this continued to delight and engage, hugely recommend."
