Leonora Harris fled her newly-wedded husband’s home in Georgian England, 1725, and took shelter in a cave during a rainstorm. She woke up in a cold, barren land and a handsome stranger with a mechanical carriage offered her shelter.
Undercover American operative Rodger Ramsey never expected to find a runaway bride in the magnificent Salar de Uyuni. Assigned to Bolivia to investigate Communist activities, he just wrapped up his two-year mission in 1963 and followed his heart to the salt flats one last time.
Sparks flew and attraction sizzled. The lost, stubborn woman kicked his protective instincts into overdrive. Rodger took her home with him, determined to help her before he returned to the States, and Leonora flourished under his guidance. Their hearts intertwined. He wanted her, needed her, but could he truly love a woman who believed she jumped two hundred years in time?
Will they find a way to stay together, despite the obstacles between them, or will Leonora survive in this strange new world alone?

(Authors Note - This is a prequel to Timeless Honor, a time travel romance with Rodger and Leonoras granddaughter, but can be read as a standalone.)

Excerpt

“I’ll do or say whatever you wish, illegal or not.” Leonora steeled her spine as the words tore up her throat. “I thought you trusted me. What can I do to earn it?”
Rodger ate up the distance between them with three long strides and shackled her wrist in his large hand like a manacle. She stumbled toward him. Tension permeated the air around him in waves of red-hot heat.
“Have you heard of the CIA, Leonora? The Central Intelligence Agency?”
“No, I have no idea what that is.”
“What can you tell me about the communist activities and alliances in this country?”
“Nothing. I don’t know. What kind of questions are these? What are you talking about?”
His head tilted to one side and his lips thinned. Rodger stared at her with a long, hard gaze even as she squirmed, the steel in her spine gone. Stress lined his face and the tendon in his neck throbbed against his skin like a tic. Minutes passed, or maybe just seconds, and air whizzed out through his nostrils. The anger in his face seemed to drain and he somehow looked older.
“How can this be? You told me the truth about everything.” He stepped back and stroked his fingers up her arm. “Though you squirmed under my gaze, you did so after you answered me and only because I intimidated you. You didn’t once respond with a typical facial or verbal nuance to indicate you lied. I feel the truth of your words in my gut and in my soul.”
“I haven’t once lied to you.”
“I just—I don’t understand. This is so unbelievable. I wish you could provide me with some kind of undeniable proof you’re from the past.”
“As do I, Rodger.”
“If we do this, you’ll stay with me until I decide otherwise. I’ll protect you. I’ll kiss you and touch you. You should know that right away. I respect you, Leonora, but I’m not a strong enough man to deny my desire for you indefinitely. I won’t bear my frustration and keep my distance anymore. Do you understand what I mean? I need to lay with you, again and again, with no regrets. Do you accept those terms?”
Rich honey poured into his every word, every syllable, and wrapped around her like a sweet promise. Blood thundered in Leonora’s ears and her lungs expanded with air to the point they might burst. The longing in his eyes scorched her.
Caught like a fly in a spider’s web, she nodded, her voice gone.
“Tell me, dearest. I need to hear the words.”
“Yes. Yes, I accept.”

About the Author

Writing is the fruit to happiness.
Amber Daulton lives her life by that one belief even though she normally isn’t so Zen.
As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and historical romance novels alike, she can’t get enough of feisty heroines and alpha heroes. Her mind is a wonderland of adventure, laughter and awesome ways of kicking a guy when he’s down. She probably wouldn’t be too sane without her computer and notebooks. After all, what’s a girl to do when people jabber away in her head and it’s hard to shut them up? Write! Nothing else works.

Read January Black Ice!

January Black Ice

Mary Catherine Collier is called to the penthouse apartment of the city’s very rich, most influential lawyer, Detrick Bittmor. He has a very personal assignment for her. It involves a mysterious young man who sits on a park bench every day at noon and stares up at Bittmor’s top floor apartment.

Mary Catherine, or Cat, as she’s better known, has a soft spot for this lawyer with a nasty reputation. There’s something about this old man she likes, and even found charming.

Detrick Bittmor thinks the young man on the park bench resembles a younger version of himself. He thinks this young man could be his son from an affair he had many years ago with a beautiful New Year lawyer. This man could be his only heir.

And old man Bittmor isn’t getting any younger.

And if you like this one, February White Lies and March Blues are out now. I'm working on the fourth story, tentatively titled April Yellow Moon. But for it to find it's way to you, the first three have to have good numbers and a decent number of reviews on Amazon.com.

So...if you download January Black Ice, and if you like it, leave an honest review on Amazon.com and leave a message here or at Carol Ann Kauffman, Author, on Facebook, or email me at visionandverse415@gmail.com, I'll send you February White Lies as a gift. It would be much appreciated.

Hugs,
Carol

Interview with Author Kathi Daley

Kathi Daley
Lake Tahoe, California

I have a special treat for you today. The delightful Kathi Daley is here with me this morning.

Kathi Daley lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and Bernese mountain dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn’t writing, she likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese), and garden (planting and planning, not weeding).

She also enjoys spending time on the water when she’s not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.  Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Kathi is a top 100 mystery writer for Amazon and she won the 2014 award for both Best Cozy Mystery Author and Best Cozy Mystery Series.

She currently writes five series: Zoe Donovan Cozy Mysteries, Whales and Tails Island Mysteries, Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mysteries, Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mysteries, and Seacliff High Teen Mysteries.

Good morning, Kathi and welcome to Vision and Verse, the Place of Art and Authors. What have you written?
I write 5 series: Zoe Donovan Cozy Mysteries, Whales and Tails Island Mystery, Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery, Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery, and Seacliff High Teen Mystery. I also write stand alone romance.

What is your favorite genre to write?
Mystery

Favorite food.
Pizza

Tea or coffee?
Coffee

Pizza or ice cream?
Pizza

Wine or beer?
Wine

Where would you like to visit?
I’ve been a lot of places including all 50 states but I would like to visit parts of Alaska I haven’t been too such as Nome or Barrow.

Favorite musical artist.
Bon Jovie

Do you listen to music when you write?
No, there’s enough chatter going on inside my head – I like it quiet when I write

What makes you laugh?
I love a clever play on words and I love to watch baby animals play.

Favorite work of art or sculpture.
I love the handmade stuff my children and grandchildren have made for me over the years.

How old were you when you started writing?
Fifty five.

Describe your perfect evening.
Dinner on the beach with a roaring fire and someone I love.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I usually get inspiration from my surroundings which, living in Tahoe, are breathtaking most of the time. We live on the edge of the forest so we have bears, and coyotes, and other wildlife in our yard on a regular basis. I also spend a lot of time at the ocean. I probably make six or seven trips a year for a week or two at a time.

What do you do when you get a writer's block?
Just keep on typing. I have typed entire pages that say: I need an idea, where is this going, who is the killer, etc, but I don’t stop working. Eventually it comes to me and I just delete the rambling. If I am really stuck I take a walk.

Who is your favorite author?
I honestly don’t have a favorite. I have various moods that define what it is that I want to read but I really don’t have a single “go to” person that I consider to be my favorite.

Best book you ever read.
Again, I don’t really have a favorite. I actually spent quite a bit of time trying to come up with something but I’m drawing a blank. I’m not really one to go back and reread books. In fact I usually don’t even go back and reread my own books once they are published but I did reread The Cat of Christmas Past, Book 6 in my Whales and Tails Island Mystery Series, a month or so ago on a whim, and I really enjoyed it. It is so odd to read your own work once you are removed from it. During the writing and editing process you are focused on specific content and you don’t necessarily get to enjoy the “feel” of the story. If I had to answer this question at this moment in time this is my favorite book.

Last book you read.
A Premonition of Murder by Mary Kennedy

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?
At this point in my life if I wasn’t a writer I’d probably just travel and putter around the house. I have been a teacher and an “at risk” counselor in the past and I do like working with teens.

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?
My husband Ken. We met and began dating in high school so we’ve always been a team and the choices we’ve made in our lives we’ve made together.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?
Just do it. The only secret to success that I’ve found is to show up each day and do the work. If you have a story you want to tell just start writing. If you do this each day you will eventually have a book. If you write something you love chances are others will love it as well.
