BOOK REVIEW: Heartless by Alena Des

BOOK REVIEW

Kings Series Book 3: Heartless by Alena Des was a great read. Demons. Humans. Vampires. Angels. And more! Riley is a handsome, heartless, reckless angel with the power of deception. That said, actually he’s not too bad of a guy and he grows on you as the story progresses. He’s drawn to the stunning Oriana. He knows she’s not human, but that’s about all he knows. Together Riley and Oriana face insurmountable odds and impossible situations, making this book one wild ride. I recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy worlds, paranormal creatures, a tight plot, lovable characters, and loads of action.

An Interview with My Favorite Live French Artist, Raphael Seygnovert

Raphael Seygnovert
French Artist

Dear Gentle Readers,

What a treat I have for you today! The wonderful French painter Raphael Seygnovert has taken time away from his easel to be with us this morning and I am thrilled to bits.

Good morning, Raphael and welcome to Vision and Verse, the place for Art and Authors. It is my pleasure to have you here with us. Tell us a little about your work.
When I realize a work, I try more to express a feeling than to follow strictly speaking a figurative approach with as a theme the landscape. I use an archaic graphic language impregnated with all my experience, all my musical and pictorial artistic influences. It is as if I were trying to express a distant memory that would not have root in our present life. As a vision the eyelids closed.

What is your favorite medium?
I love all the pictorial techniques. It is a real pleasure to apply and work the pastel with the fingers, I also like acrylic but I use it recently; I have a preference for oil, it is a very complete technique.

So what does our favorite Frenchman like to eat?
I appreciate French cuisine but as I am a vegetarian it is a bit complicated; I also love Asian, Indian and Japanese cuisine. Vegetables, cheeses ... And I love cooking too.

Coffee or tea?
I drink tea and coffee, but more coffee; In the north of France we drink a lot of coffee.

Pizza or ice cream?
The both!  Pizza "Sicilian" and Lemon ice cream.

Where would you like to visit?
What piques your interest?
I love everything about ancient cultures, ancient civilizations, mysteries ...

Favorite kind of music?
I love acoustic guitar, folk music, mystical music, relaxation music, traditional music and Celtic music. I listen to many different things, I would hardly say my favorite artist.

What makes Raphael Seygnovert laugh?
I laugh easily, I like to laugh with my friends. The imitators make me laugh, the hidden cameras too.

This is my very favorite of all your works. You call them bluebells, but in my part of the world, we have tiny pale violet clusters called bluettes, or Quaker Ladies, that only bloom in the wet, wet spring, only in the woods or parks. They are my favorite flower. You cannot buy them in a store. You must clomp through the wet woods and get all muddy to find them.

How old were you when you began creating art?
I started to paint very young, then being an adult I stopped for a long time to resume after. But painting, art, is not a craft strictly speaking, it is a way of life. It's not a choice one day makes saying "it's an interesting job", or "I can make a lot of money like that!" Or "I will be famous." This is necessary to us, for we need to create, to express ourselves in this way, because it is part of us. I need, as an autotherapeutic way, to paint, it is my medicine ... which heals my soul. I think the important thing is to be in agreement with ourselves.

We all like to draw, paint, glue rocks together, snap photos, etc., but we are well aware we couldn’t make a living doing it.
When did you know you made the right decision?
I am comforted in my choice by all positive feedback from the people I meet.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Nature is a constant source of inspiration, walking in the middle of the trees has always done me good, it is resource, we should try to preserve as many natural spaces as possible. My spirituality is also a source of inspiration.

What do you do when you get an artist block?
The artistic blockages I see more like moments of reflection that allow to take a new beginning, to have a new eye. We are all the time, internally, dying and reborn to evolve, to grow. Like the crysalid and the butterfly.

Favorite artist?
I like many different artists, I like the Impressionists, Monet, Van Gogh, Cross, Corot and also Modigliani ...

If you were not an artist, what would you do for a living?
If I was not a painter, I would have liked to be a professional guitarist, a singer, or a social job.

Who has influenced you most in your life?
The person who has influenced me most is hard to say; I have a thought for my father .. he was a great person ... courageous and much more, my mother too.. but I do not forget the others, all those people who cross your path and illuminate it even for a short time. I think we are all like sponges, every interaction, every encounter, changes our life in its own way.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be an artist?I will tell him to paint more and more, it is by forging that one becomes a blacksmith.I would tell him to expose ever more, meetings and criticisms are always very useful to evolve. To have his own opinion about his work and that of others. And getting to know one self, is the best way to be authentic.

Forsaken Paradise by Elise Whyles

About the Book:
What could be more dangerous than loving a rogue?

Condemned as a rogue and punished by his master, Angrail, one of the Seven Paradise Walkers, has wandered mortal and immortal worlds for centuries. He's determined to find those responsible for killing an innocent woman and the child she carried, no matter the cost to himself.

Ephynia, a demoness with scars, has spent a lifetime serving Nerafail, Lord of the Dead. When she unwittingly stumbles upon the one being who can end her loneliness, the battered Angrail, her life changes forever.

Unknown to Angrail and Ephynia, evil lurks in the shadows. There are those who believe Angrail and Ephynia are the key to preventing a coming war—a war that they need to take place—and they seek to end their lives.

Can Angrail find love in the arms of a demoness at war with herself? Or will the secrets hidden within the bowels of their worlds destroy them before they can find peace?

Read an Excerpt:

Angrail moaned, agony flowing like water through him. He could taste the souls wanting peace, hear their weak cries, but could do nothing. Shifting, the wounds he'd suffered screamed in protest, pain lacing through his muscles.

Inhaling a sharp breath, he froze. The sweetness of a strange smell stirred something within him. Blood, bone, life clung to whoever hovered nearby. The smell of smoke, of flame swirled in the air as well. Cracking his eyes open, he blinked to clear his vision and tensed.

Bronze skin glistening in the fading sunlight, a female stood at the mouth of the cave. Her arms were crossed beneath her breasts, a sword hanging at her hip. Multi-toned hair was slicked back, revealing the ornately decorated curve of a horn. She was a huntress. But why would she have removed him from the battlefield? None of her kind, or his own brethren, were allowed to touch him. Nerafail's generosity had bound them to watch him suffer. Aye, the old lord was a fool, one he had no desire to seek forgiveness from.

"What…" Licking his dry lips, he struggled into a sitting position. His head swam with the effort, his stomach revolting at the pain swarming him. "What do you have need of me?"

"You are awake. Excellent." The demoness turned, her eyes narrowed on him. "What do I have need with you? I should hope you have such an answer for me, guide."

Coughing, Angrail leaned his head against the stone, his chest tight, burning with the need for oxygen. Being trapped within the mortal frame had its drawbacks. "Who are you? Nerafail would not permit you to aid me."

"Aid? I have no desire to aid you. I wish to know why you called me back from my task." She stalked to him, her hips swaying. Hunkering down by his feet, she tilted her head. "I was sent forth to retrieve a soul and had nearly done that when I felt you. You kept me from leaving the field, I would know why."

"Go to Hardress." Angrail winced. "Back to your revelry and—"

"I would go home, but you refuse to release your bonds. You will tell me what I wish to know." She slammed him into the rock, her fingers tightening around his throat.

With her touch, Angrail's body arched, gasping for air as pain and heat washed over him in waves. He could feel her grip tightening, feel the force of her anger, and felt his own stirring.

He blinked, the images dancing in his mind ones he'd never seen before. Images that instinct told him were important.

Flames danced around them. Sweat beaded and rolled between her breasts. Her tongue licked at his skin, and her horns flared with passion. His shaft throbbed in yearning at her body undulating, her hips gyrating slowly. To and fro, rolling, pitching, she remained in constant motion, her hands trailing over her flesh, cupping her breasts. Her fingers plucked at her nipples, pulling on them until they stood hard, pointing toward him. She shuddered, her hand drifting down her abdomen, slipping beneath the braided belt of her skirt.

Heady, rich, the scent of her essence filled the air. Sweeter than honey, it teased along his shaft, filling him with want. Faint, the echo of her sliding her fingers through the folds between her legs grew in volume with each slow roll of her hips.

He pushed the images out of his head and shoved her arm aside, his eyes narrowing. "Careful, huntress, you're showing weakness."

"Tell me and I'll ease your misery."

"You can't."

The Captain and the Ambassador by Carol Ann Kauffman

Ambassador Tull Redmond is looking for a quick ride home back to Earth after ending her twenty-year mission as peace negotiator. All she wants is peace, quiet, and to be left alone. She boards the Earth Starship Giuseppe Verdi with its questionable leader, Captain Ben Jacobs anyway. It's the fastest way home. Her quarters has a full bath, a space view window, and a large, real bed! How bad could this rule-breaking, authority-defying Captain Casanova be? High Council hates him, true, but his crew loves him. Surely, she's too old and tired to be drawn into this bad boy of the quadrant's personal circus.
Will Ambassador Redmond get the quiet, uneventful ride home she craves?

What others are saying about The Captain and the Ambassador:

The Captain and the Ambassador is the story of Ambassador Tull Redmond, who after a long career in intergalactic mediation, is finally going home to Earth. All she wants is a quick ride home.  A long, hot bath. A cup of tea. A good book to read. No drama. Enter Captain Ben Jacobs of the Earth Starship Giuseppe Verdi. Think Captain Janeway meets Casanova.

This book is perfect for fans of Firefly, Doctor Who, and Star Trek, this story has everything we love about science fiction, with the familiar and outstanding storytelling we have come to know from Carol Ann Kauffman.

Love is grand!

Again another scoff adventure where your imagination takes your readers to faraway make believe places. Nice love story, interesting twists, nice ending. Good job, when is the next one coming?

Pretty Little Dead Things by Elizabeth Cash

Release date: May 3rd, 2018
Cover designer: JM Walker with JustWrite.Creations

Death.

The name alone will send anyone into a frenzy. It’s scary. Thinking about how one day we will be no more. Our lungs will fade out, the light in our eyes will dim, and our soul will descend from our bodies to begin a new journey.

Death.

Such a fickle thing that brings so much sadness it’s maddening. When it comes down to it, there is a beauty in it. Yet, no one can see it because to them, it harbors sorrow not elegance.

That is, until we showed them.
