BOOK: Lord of Blakeley by Carol Ann Kauffman

The series, TIME AFTER TIME, follows a pair of quintessential lovers, Richard and Nicole, through their lives together, in different places, in different times, with different names and faces and sometimes even on other planets. This follows the alternative theory that the relationships we forge in this lifetime, both the good and the bad, are continued into the future, and are rooted deeply in our past. Whatever we do, whomever we love, and the good and evil deeds we do today follow us into the future. Unsettled issues will present themselves again and again, until they are ultimately resolved. Those people who have had a profound effect on us in this lifetime will find us again in the future. And although everything changes, love remains.

Books in the TIME AFTER TIME series are:
BLUE LAKE
BELTERRA
The BASLICATO
BENTLEY SQUARE
WAITING FOR RICHARD
MACKALVEY HOUSE
LORD OF BLAKELEY
DARK RETURN
WAIT FOR ME
They do not need to be read in order.

Lord of Blakeley is the story of Andrew of Blakeley, a simple farm boy who lives on a primitive future planet. He is chosen by the lovely Lady Aleese to be her mate and rises to become the most powerful man on the planet. But a jealous man with access to mobile transport devices wreaks havoc on the young couple’s happiness, separating them, her on an alien rock planet and he, aboard a slave ship, and then dumping them in present-day Chicago. One day Aleese vanishes into thin air and Andrew is arrested for her murder and must stand trial. It is a story of devotion and jealousy, of loss and lunacy. And, in true Time After Time fashion, a story of love.

ENTERTAINMENT: The Signal (Netflix)

Is it me or are there no really good scifi movies out there anymore? Or is it we’ve watched them all already? I don’t know. I do know I’m watching ones I would never have watched before, like The Signal.

I think the multi-talented Lawrence Fishburne lost a bet and that’s how he got stuck in this low budget science fiction thriller from 2014. In a nutshell, three friends on a road trip get pulled up into a white light into the sky. Bad things happen.

It wasn’t terrible. It was better than watching the news or Star Trek Deep Space Nine reruns for the fifth time.

INTERVIEW: Fantasy and Children's Author Gigi Sedlmayer

 Gigi Sedlmayer

Gold Coast, Australia

Good morning, Gigi, and welcome to Vision and Verse, the site for today's artists and authors. Can you tell us a little about what you've written?

I have now 6 books published in the Talon series.

“Teaching Children Self-Confidence through Service to Others.” Children today face immense pressure to fit in with their peers. This pressure is leading to record rates of depression among preteens and teenagers and this to suicide. Parents look for ways to build their children’s self-esteem; however, teens look to their peers and popular culture for acceptance rather than their parents. This puts parents in a challenging situation. Most children of this age group have issues with acceptance, and this is explored and resolved in a positive manner within the story line of the Talon series, Matica shows children and teens that they can overcome great obstacles with love, patience and a selfless attitude toward helping others and experience exciting adventure on the way.

I wanted to let children and parents know that they don’t need to suffer more than they already do. So:

Children suffer from all sorts of afflictions and through my book they can learn how to coup with everything, as Matica did, the main character in my TALON books. She had to learn it in her early life. Children can find a “Condor” as Matica did. Not literally a condor, but every child or adult for that matter, they are battling with incurable afflictions, should find something that let them forget what is happening to them. Finding a “Condor” would help them to overcome that.

Parents can read my book to younger children so they can see that they are not alone, but that they can overcome it in a positive way, not in a negative way.

I say:  Children with special needs or with disability, or are handicapped don’t have an illness, so there is no cure and it’s not contagious. They want what we all want, to be accepted and loved.

My books are not only for children. As I said, adults face some illnesses as well, so my books are for adults as well as for children.

Also, the books earned several Awards and mostly 5-star reviews.

The heroine in my WIP is an art restorer. The research on art restoration is fascinating. Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?

I was always put down, not good for anything. My husband came along, and he must have seen the real me. And I became the person I was meant to be.

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

Jesus. He was the most amazing person, I believe.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?

Never give up, even it looks like, nothing works. You never know, the success is might right behind the next corner.

BOOK REVIEW: A Fatal Journey by Blythe Baker

Perils and plots in British India...
When Rose Beckingham’s pursuit of an international spy leads to the uncovering of an assassination plot, she’ll have to race against time to prevent a crime before it occurs. The dangerous investigation will threaten her relationship with Achilles Prideaux, while leading her from the dusty streets of Morocco to the deep jungles of India.
With the roots of the mystery leading back to the deaths of the real Rose and her parents, the case is personal. Rose is drawn to the site of last summer’s explosion, where a ruthless murderer strikes again. Can she discover the terrible secrets behind the fate of the Beckinghams before it’s too late? Or will a mercenary killer escape and carry the truth away with him?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Fatal Journey by Blythe Baker, an outstanding murder mystery in the style of Agatha Christie. A young woman, “Rose”, is on a personal mission to discover who killed members of the Beckingham family and why. Unfortunately, a few other bodies accumulate over the course of her inquiry before she discovers the truth. Excellent story, plot, and characters.
