The Testament by John Grisham
The first two chapters of this Grisham novel are reason enough to read the book. A very rich, cranky, odious old guy hates all his heirs, so he devises a plan to get all his children onboard to his present will and mental condition via closed circuit television, then switches wills, and does a header off the balcony.
Adventures in the Amazon by a newly dried out addict, native tribes unaccustomed to white people, and a missionary doctor who is happy with her life just the way it is, oh, and eleven billion dollars up for grabs, are a few of the highlights.
This was not his best work. He got preachy toward the end. The story lost steam. It almost seemed the first two chapters were written at a different time by the John Grisham we know and love. But Grisham is still a good read.
