The Time After Time Series by Carol Ann Kauffman

The series, TIME AFTER TIME, follows a pair of quintessential lovers, Richard and Nicole, through their many lives together, in different places, in different times, with different names and faces and sometimes even on other planets.

This follows the alternative theory that the relationships we forge in this lifetime, both the good and the bad, are continued into the future, and are rooted deeply in our past.

Whatever we do, whomever we love, and the good and evil deeds we do today follow us into the future. Unsettled issues will present themselves again and again, until they are ultimately resolved.

Those people who have had a profound effect on us in this lifetime will find us again in the future. And although everything changes, love remains.

Books in the TIME AFTER TIME series are: BLUE LAKE, BELTERRA,The BASLICATO, BENTLEY SQUARE, WAITING FOR RICHARD, LORD OF BLAKELEY, and MACKALVEY HOUSE.

They do not need to be read in order.A new adventure, WAIT FOR ME, will be out soon. I lost my editor. Through no fault of her own, she is unable to finish editing my manuscript or continue working in her chosen field. I am looking for a new editor. It is a difficult task.

WAIT FOR ME is done. It has a beautiful cover. I hope you will get to see it soon.

Interview with Historical Fiction Writer Bev Scott

Beverly Scott
San Francisco, CA
USA

Good morning, Beverly, and welcome to Vision and Verse, the place for Art and Authors. Thank you for taking the time to be with us this morning. What have you written?

First novel, “Sarah’s Secret:  A Western Tale of Betrayal and Forgiveness.”  After winding down my organization consulting career, I began a genealogical journey to learn more about my paternal grandparents, and confirm a whispered family secret.  I concluded the story needed to be fiction using the known facts as a framework and creating the missing pieces.  My prior work focused on non-fiction and related to my professional career.

What is your favorite genre to write?  Historical Fiction

Favorite food.
I don’t have one favorite food.  I like a meal with fresh vegetables and fruit with fish or seafood as the entre

Tea or coffee?
Tea please, black.

       My Grandma

Pizza or ice cream?
Neither, I can’t eat either one unless non-gluten and non-dairy.

Wine or beer?
Wine, red.

Where would you like to visit?
Italy

Go, Bev. Go now. Italy is fantastic. And you really need to go more than once to truly appreciate it's splendor  Favorite musical artist.
I like classical music.

Do you listen to music when you write?
Sometimes

What?
Classical music

Oh, we've got a comedian here. What makes you laugh?
Good times with friends

Favorite work of art or sculpture.
Monet paintings

How old were you when you started writing?
High school but that was for required papers.  Didn’t start writing what I wanted to write until my 40’s.  I didn’t start writing my first novel until I was 70.

Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write?
I begin with an outline but it gets revised multiple times.

Describe your perfect evening.
A delicious gourmet meal with good wine in the company of 2-3 good friends.

When do you feel your most inspired to write?
Often when I first wake up in the morning.

What do you do when you get a writer's block?
I take a break and do something else…take a walk, call a friend, read something unrelated.

Who is your favorite author?
I don’t have a favorite author now.  I like good writing.  When I was young I like Louisa May Allcott

Last book you read.
“Underground River” by Martha Conway

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?
I don’t make a living as a writer.  I am retired.  I spent my career as an organization consultant and leadership coach.

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?
My mother, who maintained a “career” at a time when most women didn’t, served as my role model to pursue my own life and dreams, trusted me, set high standards of performance, and always listened.

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
My dad who encouraged my curiosity and asked great questions.  Listened to my opinions and thoughts and shared his.  Always kept up with his field and with current events so he was informed and knowledgeable.  Had a great sense of humor.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer? Start writing and make it a habit to write every day or several times a week; join a writers group to get good feedback; keep at it, don’t expect to write a good first draft…just write and then revise; read good writers; and be persistent.
