BOOK: Charming Deception by Carol Ann Kauffman

Samantha wakes up to a perfect life, with a handsome, attentive husband she doesn't remember.

She has it all: a luxury vehicle, designer clothes, beautiful jewelry, and a condo on the beach.

But this isn't the life she remembers.

As time go by, Samantha discovers she is the object of an elaborate deception, one large enough to include, other worlds, body doubles, time travel, world-hopping, and a galaxy guardian as cold as ice.

Is her charming husband in on this deception?

For our thirtieth anniversary, my husband and I returned to the same Florida resort where we spent our honeymoon. I promised my husband I would not make it a working vacation because it was supposed to be a romantic getaway, so I left my laptop at home.

Jet lag, eating dinner later than usual, and my introduction to sweet and minty Mojitos caused me to fall into a very deep sleep.

I woke up in the night. I had to pee. The curtains were stretched open. The sky was pitch black. I didn’t know where I was. Nothing was familiar. A loud snore interrupted me. I crept out of bed so as not to wake my sleeping husband and went to the bathroom.

And that’s how Charming Deception started. Me, typing away on my iPhone.

ENTERTAINMENT: Predestination (Roku TV)

This was one of the strangest, darkest, most compelling science fiction, time-loopy film I’ve seen in a very long time.

It took a long time to set up, and I was having my doubts, when BAM! It took off. All twisty and disorienting, Ethan Hawke was amazing as a time agent sent back to stop a mad bomber in New York City.

And then there was the man who used to be a woman who fell in love with….

BOOK REVIEW: The Bookstore Sisters by Alice Hoffman

The Bookstore Sisters was a short story about two sisters who grew up on an island where their father owned a bookstore. Fast forward many years, the parents are now deceased.

One sister has remained on the island, doing all those traditional daughter, island, bookstore things. Her husband is now deceased. She has a child.

The other sister ran away because she wanted to have a different life, away from the island.

One day run-away sister gets a note from the island. It says “Help!”.

This was a touching story about sisters. If you have a sister, you’ll like this story.
