but has beautiful green hills.
Good morning, Alice, and welcome to Vision and Verse, the site for Art and Authors and those who love them. Can you tell us what you've written?
Loads! My most popular series is The Kingdom of Birds and Beasts trilogy that recently released as an omnibus.
I also have The Flawed Princess, Queen Avan, Silent Melody and Enchanted Melody as my full length novels.
The Widow and the Beast and Whispers of Ebony will be out in September and October respectively.
Stay tuned for Stars May Burn and Crown of Glass at the start of 2023!
I also have written ten short stories which are either available on their own or in anthologies. I
especially love being part of charity anthologies where all the proceeds go to charity.
What is your favorite genre to write?
I write mostly young adult fantasy and fairytales. I especially like tales which have a beautiful but harsh edge to them, high stakes, heroines that have a lot to overcome, and clean healthy romance.
Favorite food.
Chocolate and cheese. Just not together.
Tea or coffee?
Love tea. Hate coffee.
Pizza or ice cream?
Ice cream. Though I will happily have both!
Wine or beer or soda or what?
I dislike the taste of alcohol and will happily just stick with my tea! Though I do like fizzy elderflower drinks.
Where would you like to visit?
Japan and South Korea. I would love to visit those places so many stories I've read and watched have been set in!
Favorite musical artist.
Tough one. Maybe The Feeling or The Editors.
Do you listen to music when you write?
Only movie soundtracks. Anything with words, and I can't concentrate. I most often write in silence, but I do love having a dramatic theme tune playing in the background.
What makes you laugh?
It's not very hard to make me laugh. Most of the time it's at myself.
Favorite work of art or sculpture.
I must admit I look at a lot of fan art! I think my favorite piece is one of my characters Brianna and Jian by Alexandra Curte as it means so much to me.
How old were you when you started writing?
My first full length novel was written when I was 11, though I'd written several shorter books before that. I think I started writing frequently at about seven or eight when I wrote about a group of children who ran away to sea and became kings and queens of the sharks and got married far too young. They all seemed to loose limbs too...
Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write?
I write key scenes and then go back and fill in the middle. Often I'm not sure of the second half of the book when I write the first half!
Describe your perfect evening.
In a cottage with my husband in the middle of nowhere with a bath, then comfy blanket and book.
Where do you get your inspiration?
All sorts of places. Mostly from stories I've read or watched. But also sometimes scenes just come randomly, vividly into my head!
What do you do when you get a writer's block?Either skip that bit and write the next scenes (I find it much easier to fill the gap if I know where it's going). Or take a break and read.
Who is your favorite author?
Brandon Sanderson. Closely followed by Holly Black.
Best book you ever read.
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.
Or maybe The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Or possibly The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon.
Last book you read.
The War of Two Queens by Jennifer Armentrout.
What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?
I work part time as a charity vet and also look after my young son. I don't think I could fit in anything more!
Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?My husband since we have been together since I had just turned 19 and is my biggest supporter.
If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
C.S Lewis, as I would love to understand that guy's incredible brain! And I love the deeper meaning behind many of his books.
What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?
Keep on writing as much as you can and get a developmental editor early on who can help you grow.
