BOOK: Waiting for Richard by Carol Ann Kauffman

While on a book tour in Australia, retired insurance office manager-turned children’s author Skye McKenna finds adventure and romance with a reclusive elephant-loving veterinarian who is very familiar to her.

How does she know him?
From where?
Will this relationship last longer than her two-week tour?
Is it possible for one to find love so late in life?
Should she take a chance?

This is story in the TIME AFTER TIME series follows a pair of quintessential lovers, Richard and Nicole, through their many lifetimes together, at different times, in different places, with different names and faces.

This follows the alternate theory that the relationships we forge in this lifetime, both good and bad, are continued in the future and rooted in the past. Those people who have had a profound effect on us in this life will find us in the future.

In this story, our lovers are in their sixties and think love has passed them by. By when they meet, sparks fly!

ENTERTAINMENT: Pieces of Her (Netflix)

The first time I started watching this, it didn’t hold my attention. But I think Toni Collette is a fantastic actor, so I tried it again. And I’m glad I did.

Once the action starts, there’s no time to take a breather.

INTERVIEW: *Romantic Fantasy Author Abigail Manning

Abigail Manning
Knoxville, TN
USA

Good morning, Abigail, and welcome to Vision and Verse. Can you tell us a little about what you've written?

I have a series of fairy tale retellings that are clean young adult reads known as the Emerald Realm Series.

What is your favorite genre to write?

Romantic fantasies! Specifically retellings, because I love putting a new twist on classics.

Favorite food.

Marshmallows, in all forms.

Tea or coffee?

Tea! I’m not necessarily a teas snob, but I am a tea addict!

Pizza or ice cream?

Pizza, but it’s gotta be really trashy pizza that arrived at my doorstep in the pouring rain.

Wine or beer or soda or what?

Tea again… I don’t drink soda or alcohol, again I may have a tea problem…

Where would you like to visit?

Japan!

Favorite musical artist.
Lindsey Stirling!

Do you listen to music when you write?  What?

Not Not while I write (cause I get super distracted!)

but I listen to my playlists before I write that are

inspired by my characters.

What makes you laugh?

My fat cat trying to jump on skinny shelves

Favorite work of art or sculpture.

I have a talented family whose art decorates my home! So probably anything by my dad or mother-in-law

How old were you when you started writing?

I started dabbling with the idea when I was maybe 17, but never actually sat down to write until I was 23

Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write?

I throw together a brief summary in my phone notes then just rung with my keyboard!

Describe your perfect evening.

Chubby cat on my right, skinny cat on my left, my 6-month old puppy on my lap, and an endless binge of Netlflix while I sip a tea latte.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I’m a nanny! So a lot of my inspiration comes from the kid’s childlike joy and crazy antics. I rewrite a lot of children’s tales so I often get ideas for new books when reading to them.

What do you do when you get a writer's block?

I’ve actually never had writer’s block… I occasionally get stuck while I’m plotting, but I usually work through it by talking out ideas with my husband and then realizing I had an idea all along when I don’t like any of his! (Sorry!)

Who is your favorite author?
Kenley Davidson!

Best book you ever read.

I really enjoyed Traitors Masque by Davidson, it really inspired me to write what I create today.

Last book you read.
Pathways by Camille Peters

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?

I actually have two jobs! I’m a part-time nanny and a part-time writer. I love doing both and would likely nanny full-time if I stopped writing.

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?

Definitely my husband, he’s my biggest support and fan. I couldn’t do what I do without him.

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

Adam, I want to know where up with all the names for the animals. I mean, Giraffe? Did you sneeze when you said it?

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?

Just go for it! It’s a huge undertaking at first, but it only gets more rewarding the further you go!

BOOK REVIEW: Firefly Junction, Killer Bridal Party by London Lovett

Killer  Bridal Party, Book 2 in the Firefly Junction Cozy Mystery Series, was delightful.

A bridal party goes camping in the woods. Someone bashes the maid of honor’s head in. Twists and turns shift the suspicion from bridal party member to member.

Crack investigative journalist Sunni Taylor is on the job, discreetly. Add a handsome police detective, a very good looking ghost, and a psychic friend and you have a real page turner.

Love the series. I am off to start Book 3.
