INTERVIEW: Dark Fantasy Author Jens Budinger

Jens Budinger

Malta

Good morning, Jens, and welcome to Vision and Verse. Can you tell us

a little about what you’ve written?

Two Book in a series entitled The Chronicles of Lilith.

Book 1 called The Queen of Shards and

Book 2 the Darkness Within.

What is your favorite

genre to write?

Dark Fantasy & Sci-Fi

Favorite food.

Pizza

Tea or coffee?

Both

Pizza or ice cream?

Pizza

Wine or beer or soda or what?

COKE ZERO

Where would you like to visit?

So many places. Probably Iceland though right now.

Favorite musical artist.

Jack White

Do you listen to music when you write?  What?

Mostly Alternative and Blues. I like most rock etc.

What makes you laugh?

Dark Humor and sarcasm.

Favorite work of art or sculpture.

I would say the Sistine Chapel.

Oh, yes. Magnificent. They always say look

up, but the walls are also incredible.

How old were you when you started

writing?

10. But it was random writings, nothing concrete. Proper writing books at 35.

Do you plan out your book with outlines

and notecards? Or just write?

I’m most definitely a planner. I leave

pantsing for the last undefined 10% of the novel (ie. The scene details

etc). I use a massive Miro Board (which is basically a digital

whiteboard) where I plan everything and use it as a repository for

ideas, themes, character profiles etc.

Describe your perfect evening.

Chilling by the beach bar with a few friends having beers and just

having a relaxed time.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Everything. Life, movies, books, music, non-fiction books. Anything

that peaks my interest or curiousity.

What do you do when you get a writer's block?

Go for a walk.

Who is your favorite author?

Oscar Wilde (Fiction), Will Durant (Non-fiction)

Best book you ever read.

Difficult to tell. I’d say the most beautiful and profound was the Toa

Te Ching.

Last book you read.

The Origin and History of Consciousness by Eric Neueman

What would you do for a living if you

weren’t a writer?

I currently work as a UX Designer and a

lawyer by profession but I haven’t practiced

law in a few years.

Who is the one person who has influenced

your personal life the most and why?

Hmmmm, beyond immediate family

members can’t think of anyone in particular

that struck a particular chord. Everyone

influences us to some degree or other both in

good and bad ways. I would say I tend to remember my antagonists in

life better than my helpers since the challenges they gave me made me

the person I am today – so if at all I do afford them a good thought in

retrospect.

If you could sit down and have a

conversation with ONE person,

living or dead, real or fictional,

who would it be and why?

Alive, Christopher Nolan, in the

hope he’d make my books into a

movie. Haha

No haha! I am waiting for his

phonecall or email, also. What advice would you give someone who

aspired to be a writer?

Write whatever you wanna write

and write it till you love it and those beta readers whom you share it

with love it too. Also start marketing early and get good at it.
