INTERVIEW: Children’s Author Judy and Keith

Judy and Keith,

writing jointly.

Los Angeles, CA

USA

Good morning, Judy and Keith, and welcome to Vision and Verse. Can you tell us a little about what you’ve written? What have you written?

We’ve written the gambit from children’s stories to clean romance. The children’s stories are mainly collections of short chapter-books with hand-drawn illustrations that various members of our family drew. There are also a couple of young adult stories. The Adventures of Harry Putter, More Time and The Time Traveler’s Children.

Judy has also published several books of original piano compositions under the umbrella name Suite Music.

Stefan has published multiple adult paranormal science fiction fantasy series and novels. The two most recent are Alexverse and Extraordinhair.

What is your favorite genre to write?

is a difficult question to answer. We wrote for our grandchildren. They’re now teenagers so our focus has moved from short children’s stories through young adult to new adult.

Stefan’s first love is adult science fiction where anything can and does happen. Think a blend of paranormal science fiction fantasy romance or some would say erotica.

Favorite food.

Fish and chips.

Tea or coffee?

Tea

Pizza or ice cream?

That’s a tough one…ice cream

Wine or beer or soda?

Judy white wine, Keith red wine, Stefan, anything alcoholic!

Where would you like to visit?

Judy’s favorite phrase is this place reminds me of…

As we’ve got older, staying home gets better and better.

I so understand that at this point in my life.

Do you listen to music when you write?

No

Me, neither. I need quiet.

What makes you laugh?

Life

How old were you when you started writing?

Sixty-one

Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write?

Just write

Describe your perfect evening.

Dancing

Where do you get your inspiration?

Judy and Keith drinking wine on our rooftop deck.

What do you do when you get a writer's block?

Hasn’t ever been a problem…yet! I have a theory. Writers block is caused by the conflict between the writer’s outline and what the actual characters want to do. Always listen to your characters.

Who is your favorite author?

There are too many. Enid Blyton, children’s books, Tolkien, fantasy, Steven King, horror, Asimov, science fiction…

Best book you ever read.

I/we can’t choose just one.

Last book you read.

A western by Sandra Cox, Keeper Tyree

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?

Luckily, this question is irrelevant as we’re retired!

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?

Judy and Keith…we’ve been together for over fifty years.

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

Can’t decide. Jesus, Einstein, Newton…I must admit it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall and listen to the leading religious names from throughout time discuss the importance of life.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?

Get a paying job.
