The Crystal Pawn and The Ivory Queen


What is your favorite genre to write? 

Fantasy

                                                                                                            

Tea or coffee? 

Coffee

 

Pizza or ice cream?

Pizza

 

Wine or beer or soda or what? 

Depends on the day. Riesling or Gunner’s Daughter Milk Stout.

 

Where would you like to visit? 

Four Corners area and Mesa Verde

 

Favorite musical artist.  

Elbow/Peter Gabriel

 

Do you listen to music when you write?  

Yes 

What? 

Elbow, Keene, Snow Patrol, Peter Gabriel, Grey Eye Glances.


What makes you laugh? 

Ridiculous stories, dry humor.

 

Favorite work of art or sculpture. 

Starry Night

 

How old were you when you started writing?

Fourteen

 



Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write? A little of both. Depends on how complex the storyline is.

 




Describe your perfect evening. 

Coffee on the patio with friends.

 


Where do you get your inspiration? 

Dreams and other writers

 

What do you do when you get a writer's block? 

Work on something else.

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer?

 I teach college and high school literature, so I’m already doing it ;)

 

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why? 

Fran McCormick. She was an art teacher of mine in high school, and she taught me to never give up no matter what life throws at you.


 

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why? 

Joseph Campbell. I love mythology and would want to talk to him about his ideas.

 



What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer? Keep at it. Don’t let anyone keep you from doing it.
