ENTERTAINMENT: The Club ( Netflix)

This one, The Club, was really good. It’s a Turkish film about a single Jewish girl, Matilda, who gets pregnant by her Muslim boyfriend. Her whole family gets murdered. Her boyfriend dies under mysterious circumstances. Matilda commits a revenge murder and is sent to jail. She has the child, a little girl, but gives her up for adoption.

Seventeen years later, Matilda gets released from jail and goes to work at “The Club” in 1950s Istanbul and the club becomes as much a character in this drama as the gay lounge singer, Matilda’s juvenile delinquent daughter, and a blackmailing, revenge-thirsty boss.

The first episode is slow, but like many a good book, it’s setting you up a good story. Good main characters. Equally good side characters.

All info from Netflix and IMbd.
